Have you ever seen somebody you are impressed with until you get a look at their shoes and see they are dull and dingy? It completely ruins their looks. The same thing happens in your home with your flooring options. Even in the garage this is important.
Despite any amount of orderliness in a garage, an unfinished floor will never be able to look clean unless garage floor painting is used. The dirt and oil from a car coupled with dirty foot prints and spots of soil can destroy a homeowner’s vision of the perfect home. When choosing paint for this task, an oil based paint will never be the perfect solution. Oil based paints quickly peel with any amount of heat including the heat from hot tires on a summer afternoon.
There are many varieties of epoxy and stains that can be used for garage floor painting. It should be kept in mind that the only way these will adhere to the floor is if the floor is completely cleaned before the application. If the floor is smooth, a simple broom with a good detergent may do the trick. Options for rough floors include pressure washing or applying a solvent that can be found at any basic hardware store. A solvent can even blast through year of dirt and grime.
Also, before applying whichever Garage floor paint epoxy or stain is chosen, the floor should be completely dry or else the paint will have difficulty adhering to the concrete and will instead form into a powdery layer. A space heater running over night will dry most any floor.
The best way to paint a garage floor is by using an epoxy containing acrylic resin. Typically, a color can be added to the coating and non skid additives can be spread on top of this before the epoxy dries. However, epoxy is not recommended for garages that have moisture problems originating from under the slab as this can ruin the bond.
A second option for garage floor painting would be to apply a stain similar to the way wood is stained. A huge advantage of a stain is that it can be easily touched up or reapplied as it begins to wear. Both acrylics and solvents are available as stains. Both of these types are applied just like normal house paint; therefore they are highly recommended for the beginner painter. To make a garage seem just as clean and polished as the rest of the house, choose garage floor painting.
